RPCS3 emulator can now run all PlayStation 3 games

The “Loadable” category has been reduced to zero games. Now the emulator displays at least one image for all PlayStation 3 games. 68% of titles.

The team behind RPCS3, a PlayStation 3 emulator, announced on Twitter yesterday that their emulator now runs all games released on Sony’s console. Remember that the release of this machine dates back to November 2006 in Japan; Sony ended production in May 2017.

The developers of RPCS3 posted the following message: “We are delighted to announce that starting today, the category “loadable” of RPCS3 includes 0 GAME! This means no more PS3 games starting to a black screen on the emulator – all PS3 games will launch and show at least one image.”

68% of PS3 games playable on the emulator

For RPCS3, games are classified into five categories: nothing, loadable, intro, ingame, playable. The first two no longer include any title. The third, only 3.42% of PlayStation 3 games: this rank concerns titles displaying at least one image but which do not allow you to skip the menu. The category ingame is for games that are runnable but interminable and crippled with bugs; it brings together 28.59% of the PS3 catalog. Finally, 67.98% of the console’s games are playable through RPCS3, with relatively stable performance and free of progression-blocking bugs.

Now the team will focus on improving performance and fixing bugs and other graphical issues. Meticulous work, with progress often limited to a few games at a time: for example last May, an update improved the emulation of thirteen titlesdont Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, God of War III, Sonic Unleashed, Red Dead Redemption ou encore Skate 2.

The last video posted on the RPCS3 channel dates back to September 24: it shows MotorStorm Pacific Rift running at 60 frames per second in 2160p.

You can download the latest version of the RPCS3 emulator on the official website.
