After agreement on settlement: Prince Andrew pays debts
An eight-digit sum is in the room, even if no number was officially mentioned. Now only the signature of a New York judge is missing.
After agreeing to settle the Prince Andrew abuse scandal, the case is regarding to be discontinued.
The lawyers for the British Royals and the US plaintiff Virginia Giuffre officially applied for this setting to a court in New York on Tuesday. This emerges from a document that was available to the German Press Agency.
“Each side bears its own costs and fees. That’s how it’s set,” it said. Judge Lewis Kaplan’s signature was missing from the document as of Tuesday, but that was considered a formality. Earlier, Andrew had made his payment to Giuffre, according to British news agency PA.
The 62-year-old reached an agreement with the plaintiff in mid-February, thereby averting a reputation-damaging civil lawsuit in the United States. Giuffre accused Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was a minor more than 20 years ago.
Reports have it that Andrew will have to pay an eight-figure sum, but there is no official comment. Some observers see the deal as an admission of guilt by the prince, even if he has always vehemently denied the allegations.
