The royal will has turned the impossible into possible on the road linking the cities of Tiznit and Dakhla, where this road, which was described decades ago as the “road of death,” has been transformed into a highway.
The royal will and the lofty directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI were able to connect the center of the Kingdom of Morocco to its south, via this highway that crosses the mountains and deserts, passes through valleys and parallel to the beaches.
This huge royal project will transform the cities of the Moroccan desert into model cities on the national and continental levels, and will also contribute to attracting more tourists and investors to the southern regions of the Sharifian Kingdom, with their dazzling beauty.
In addition, this highway will be an important lever for investments, and will have a positive and direct impact on the population of the southern provinces, contributing to the social and economic development of four regions of the Kingdom: Souss-Massa, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
Regarding the latest developments in this huge project, Mubarak Fensha, Director of the Interim Directorate in charge of completing the Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway, revealed that the completion of this road has reached 97 percent, meaning that approximately 950 km have been completed in full, including 15 technical facilities that have been completed.
Fencha explained that this project, which is part of the Southern Provinces Development Program, launched by King Mohammed VI in 2015 from the city of Laayoune, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Green March, aims to structure National Road No. 1 along 1,055 kilometers.
According to the same speaker, this project, which is 1055 km long and has a budget of 10 billion dirhams, will constitute an important addition to the infrastructure of the Kingdom of Morocco, adding that the work is progressing, despite the constraints posed, including the lack of resources.
It is worth noting that this structured project aims to provide the southern regions of the Kingdom with a road axis characterised by the highest international standards and a high degree of safety. It also aims to reduce travel time, avoid road interruptions due to floods and sand encroachment, and facilitate the transport of goods to and from the cities of southern Morocco.
