Royal separation: Greek royal couple divorces

Marriage over in the former Greek royal family: Prince Nikolaos von Greece and Denmark (54) and Princess Tatiana (43) are divorcing after almost 14 years of marriage. The family announced on their website on Friday afternoon that the decision was made by mutual consent. The monarchy in Greece was abolished after a referendum in 1974.

The decision to divorce was made “with great care and mutual respect” and reflects the deep appreciation for each other and for their life together, it said. The couple celebrated their dream wedding on the Greek island of Spetses in 2010.

Greek media wrote of a “bomb” and a decision “out of the blue”. The family, on the other hand, emphasized good cooperation in their message and asked for respect for the couple’s privacy. The two’s future interaction will “continue to be guided by the same principles of respect and mutual understanding” and the relationship will be “based on a strong friendship.” Nikolaos and the Venezuelan-born Tatiana Blatnik want to continue in Greece live in the country they both called home. The two have no children. Prince Nikolaos is the son of the last king of Greece, who died in January 2023 GreeceConstantine II, and his wife Anne-Marie of Denmark
