A Royal Jordanian Air Force plane landed “urgent medical aid” over Gaza, designated for the Jordanian field hospital, for the second time since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, according to what the Jordanian army announced in a statement on Sunday.
An official military source in the General Command of the Armed Forces said, “Under royal directives, a Royal Air Force plane, on Saturday, dropped urgent medical aid for the second time, using parachutes, to the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza.” He added, “The landing operation came in cooperation with the two sister states of the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar, to enhance and develop the hospital’s capabilities, and increase the ability of medical personnel to provide health and treatment services to alleviate the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip,” without giving further explanations, according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse. ».
He explained, “This step comes as a continuation of the efforts of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to stand by our brothers in light of the war on the Gaza Strip.” Pointing out that “the hospital continues to operate despite the difficult conditions it is suffering from, as a result of the ongoing Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip.” Jordanian King Abdullah II announced the airdrop of “urgent medical aid” into Gaza, designated for this hospital, at dawn last Monday, stressing at the time that “this is our duty to help the wounded and injured who are suffering as a result of the war on Gaza.”
The commander of the field hospital, Colonel Thaer Al-Khatib, explained on Tuesday that the first shipment included “dropping 3 parcels to a pre-determined location,” each of which contained “a total of 1,000 kilograms of medical and pharmaceutical materials and basic supplies.”
Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh announced on Tuesday that his country will receive 41 Palestinian children suffering from cancer from the Gaza Strip, for treatment in one of the specialized centers in Amman.
Since the outbreak of war on October 7, Jordan has witnessed almost daily demonstrations in solidarity with the Palestinians, demanding the cancellation of the peace treaty signed between Jordan and Israel in 1994, and the closure of the Israeli embassy in Amman. On November 2, the Kingdom recalled its ambassador to Israel, denouncing “the raging Israeli war on Gaza that is killing innocents and causing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.” It also informed Israel not to return its ambassador, who had left the country earlier.
On the Palestinian side, more than 11,078 people were killed, including more than 4,506 children, in the Israeli bombing of Gaza, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.
Five weeks following the start of the war, Israel announced on Friday that it had reduced the death toll from the attack launched by Hamas from 1,400 to 1,200 dead, explaining that “this toll is not final.”
