King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima fired the starting signal for the King’s Games on Friday morning at a primary school in Hoofddorp. The royal couple opened the national sports day by pressing a large orange button together with several children.

Children for Children performed during the opening and sang the song Daba Die Daba Daa, the theme song of this year’s King Games, several times.
The king and queen moved quietly on stage, as might be seen in the live registration on NPO Zapp’s TikTok channel.

6,300 schools with approximately 1.3 million children have registered for the twelfth edition of the King’s Games. Schools in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and Dutch schools abroad also participate.

The sports day was first organized in 2013 in the context of the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. The aim of the event is to show children in primary education and their parents that a good breakfast and active exercise are important.
