Roy Barreras isolates himself from the Petro campaign, after the ‘petrovideos’ scandal, but does not give up his seat in the Historical Pact

After the hurricane that broke out in Colombia due to the forceful revelations he made SAMANA of an extensive package of videos demonstrating a dirty war of the presidential campaign of Gustavo Petro’s Historical Pact, Senator Roy Barreras made a drastic decision.

Barreras, who is one of the protagonists of the scandal, decided to distance himself from the Historic Pact campaign by arguing that His active stay might be used for attacks in the midst of the electoral contest that is approaching the second presidential round on June 19.

“To the media that have kindly offered me their spaces, thank you, but I totally isolate myself these last days of the campaign so as not to continue being used as an attack flank once morest @petrogustavo, a good and transparent man who will govern Colombia for good,” Barreras trilled.

The reactions to that announcement were immediate, in that sense the politician John Sudarsky showed his position through Twitter: “@RoyBarreras does very well to isolate himself from the @petrogustavo campaign. But it is only a tactical withdrawal, so that the corruption and patronage that will return its governability is not noticed. BUT IT IS NOTED! They’re not fooling anyone.”

It should be remembered that another of the highly questioned political figures who were in the Historical Pact was the elected congresswoman Piedad Córdoba, who also distanced herself from the campaign in the midst of multiple scandals.

On that particular issue, it was Petro himself who asked the senator-elect to suspend any type of activity related to supporting his campaign due to the legal problems and questions he faces. On his Twitter account, as usual, Petro sent a direct message to Córdoba asking him to stay away until he can resolve “the legal charges once morest him.”.

roy’s plan

Senator Roy Barreras, one of Gustavo Petro’s main bishops, had a strategy underway to discredit Federico Gutiérrez’s candidacy, which included, among other things, for the search for the signed statement of a drug trafficker who muddied the Team for Colombia candidate.

What was said by Barreras, in a meeting whose recording was known exclusively by WEEKcoincides precisely with what Gutiérrez warned at the time, in the sense that from the Historical Pact they were looking for drug traffickers in the prisons so that they would end their candidacy.

“It is very serious that they want to dirty other candidates and campaigns, like mine. We have information where, supposedly, they would use drug traffickers to try to dirty the campaigns,” he said. Fico in April. “El Pacho Histórico is looking for votes in exchange for prison benefits for the corrupt and violent”, He warned at that time and mentioned that they were looking for alias Douglas, one of the leaders of the Oficina de Envigado that he fought as mayor of Medellín.

At the meeting, attended by Alfonso Prada, Luis Fernando Velasco, Clara López and Senator Rooselvelt Rodríguez, Barreras makes a specific consultation.

“I wanted to consult you if this committee decides to go on the attack, now let’s say that we have been on the defensive, and there is a lot of material, here I have part of the material that my team collected this morning regarding Federico Gutiérrez and Julio Perdomo’s statements, once morest him, the imprisoned drug trafficker, a series of witnesses regarding his links with the Oficina de Envigado, which are not at all strange because he was a candidate for mayor supported by Paola Holguín, who comes from the Oficina de Envigado, and the narco Perdomo himself tells the Prosecutor thatBarriers noted.

“If we go on the attack, obtaining the signed statement of this Mr. Perdomo, of the links of Federico Gutiérrez with the Office of Envigado, how they set up the operations as judicial false positives, they planned the delivery and capture of a guy and following a month they released him ”, adds Senator Barreras. “You have to go on the attack,” he said.
