Sports writing, June 17. The Spanish women’s two-handed boats and the men’s light skiff qualified for their respective A finals of the second round of the Rowing World Cup, which takes place in the Lake Varese canal, in northern Italy.

Aina Cid and Esther Briz’s boat was second with a time of 6.59.96, very close to the American participants (6.58.26). Germany was third in that semifinal.

Manel Balastegui, in skiff libero, was also second in his semifinal. The Catalan resisted the harassment of the Frenchman Baptiste Sabaete and in turn pushed the Swiss Andri Struzina, winner with 6.48.44, to the limit. Balastegui finished just over two seconds behind.

Virginia Díaz from Cantabria, on the other hand, might do little in her skiff semifinal and her fifth place did not even help her get a place in the B final. Her time was 7.26.87, more than three seconds behind the fourth classified. EFE
