Routes are reduced and schedules of these trains in Cuba are adjusted 2024-07-18 05:21:01

Passenger rail transport authorities in Cuba have announced a reduction in routes and adjustments to the schedules of these trains in this province in the center of the island.

According to local radio, passenger rail transport in Cienfuegos has reduced its services, operating only on weekends to facilitate access to the beaches. This measure is due to fuel limitations, which have forced the cancellation of regular departures during this period, they said.

They will only operate this route to the beaches on Saturdays and Sundays, something that will continue during the summer season, they said. However, this affected the regular departures of these trains, since the fuel is only intended for “five departures a week.”

José Ramón Bernal, deputy director of Cienfuegos Railways, said that the Cienfuegos-Santo Domingo interprovincial train should run from Thursday to Monday, and the Cienfuegos-Aguada train from Friday to Tuesday. The Santo Domingo Viajero train will only be cancelled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the Aguada train on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In short, no trains would run on Wednesdays in this province due to the assigned fuel plan.

Although the number of these trains is decreasing, in Cienfuegos, in central Cuba, the Aguada-Cienfuegos railcar was rescued at a cost to passengers of 10 pesos per train ticket.

What are the schedules for these few trains? The one to Santo Domingo leaves the Pearl South terminal at 4:44 pm, and Aguada at 5:10 pm on the days already mentioned. The schedules for the transfers to the beaches were not specified. However, they did predict that the national train, Havana-Cienfuegos, would soon resume its circulation.

A few days ago, the Cuban Railways Union (UFC) established new stops for national trains with the aim of reducing travel time and responding to requests from the population, according to Minister Rodríguez Dávila. For more information, click this link.
