Today, May 15, at 10:25 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) The decision in the presidential elections in Turkey will not be made for another two weeks. In the first ballot, incumbent Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was ahead, but was unable to achieve an absolute majority with just under 50 percent of the votes. After almost two decades in power, Erdoğan must therefore face a runoff once morest second-placed opposition leader Kılıçdaroğlu for the first time on May 28. Who has the better chance of winning the runoff? Why was the opposition alliance able to get so many votes in the first ballot? What significance would a change of power have for Turkey and subsequently for Europe?

Discuss this today, Monday, May 15, 2023, at 10:25 p.m. on ORF 2 with Peter Fritz at the “Round Table”:

Selma Yildirim
Member of the National Council, SPÖ, and election observer in Turkey

Hakan Akbulut
Political Scientist, Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University, Kaiserslautern

Christian Ultsch
