Round table conference on the occasion of 75th anniversary of Pakistan-Russia diplomatic relations

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-Russia diplomatic relations, a round table conference was held in which the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Daniela Ganch, specially participated.

On behalf of the Center for Strategic Perspectives (CSP) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Pakistan, Daniela Ganch, on the occasion of ’75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Pakistan and Russia’. A round table conference was organized in memory.

The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador Sohail Mehmood, Director General, ISSI, while Ms. Sahar Kamran, former member of the Senate of Pakistan, Lt. Gen. Asad Durrani (retd), Ambassador Nadeem Riaz, President IRS, Ambassador Shah Jamal, former Ambassador of Pakistan. , Ambassador Tasneem Aslam, Former Ambassador of Pakistan and Spokesman Major General Mohammad Raza Azad, DG, ISRA, NDU, Dr. Tughral Yameen, Senior Research Fellow IPS, Dr. Farah Naz Assistant Professor NUST, Dr. Shabbir Ahmad Khan , Director Area Study Center for China, Russia and CARs, Dr. Asma Naveed Prof. Namal, Dr. Aafia Malik Research Economist PIDE, Ali Salman, and Research Associates of CASS and IPRI, Dr. Neelam Nigar, Director CSP, and research faculty of ISSI also participated in the round table.

In his welcome address, DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mehmood outlined the various phases of Pakistan-Russia relations over the past 75 years, including the Cold War era, the post-Cold War years and the current phase. He stressed that the relationship, currently, is marked by friendship, increased mutual understanding, and increased cooperation in multiple domains. Citing conflicting interests in a range of regional and international issues, he said the desire for better cooperation stems from Pakistan’s deep engagement with the Eurasian region and geo-economic imperatives.

During the interactive session, the discussion focused on multiple dimensions of Pakistan-Russia relations, while participants noted the need for cooperation in various fields including energy, security, agriculture and people-to-people relations. .

In the regional context, the progress regarding Afghanistan, South Asia, Central Asia and regional relations were discussed and the emerging situation regarding the Ukraine conflict was also reviewed, while the possibilities of political settlement in this regard and China in this context were discussed.
