Primoz Roglic lost more than two minutes to the other contenders in the Tour de France following a crash near the finish. Biniam Girmay won his third stage this year yesterday.
Roglic crashed into the asphalt with 12 kilometres remaining, following the cyclist collided with road furniture and lost control. Roglic was unable to avoid the crash and fell along with other competitors.
It was the second crash in less than 24 hours for four-time Grand Tour champion Roglic. He got back on his bike but struggled at the back and was helped to the finish by his Bora-Hansgrohe teammates, who finished two minutes and 27 seconds behind the winner, according to the provisional results, dropping him to sixth place in the competition.
Biniam Girmay, the first black cyclist to win a Tour stage, claimed his third, beating Wout van Aert and Arnaud Démare to extend his lead in the sprinters’ standings.
Two-time Tour champion Tadej Pogacar keeps the yellow jersey.
Pogacar has a 1:06 minute lead over Remco Evenpoel, while two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard is third, 1:14 minutes behind.
The crash impacted preparations for the final sprint and Matthieu Van der Poel was left far behind in the main group, unable to help his teammate Jasper Philipsen.
