Legendary motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi is on the list of competitors entered next season in endurance, in the LMGT3 category. He will therefore participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
He was in the glory days of the motorcycle world championship for fifteen years, and now here he is in the world endurance championship (WEC)! Valentino Rossi, aged 44, is on the entry list in the LMGT3 category, the second endurance division behind the Hypercar category. This list was revealed this Monday and 18 cars are entered in LMGT3, for nine manufacturers represented (Aston Martin, BMW, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche).
Valentino Rossi will drive the BMW M4 GT3 for Team WRT. With number 46, obviously. However, the names of his two teammates have not yet been revealed. The nine-time motorcycle world champion (all categories) is expected to take part in the eight races of the 2024 season: the prologue in Qatar in February, the 1812 km of Qatar in March, the 6 Hours of Imola in April, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in May, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo in July, the Lone Star Le Mans in Austin in September, the 6 Hours of Fuji in September and the 8 Hours of Bahrain in November.
Rossi has already won at Le Mans
Valentino Rossi will be present at Le Mans for the most anticipated stage of the season on June 15 and 16. Last year, he won in Sarthe in a support race for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, thus signing his first championship victory at the wheel of a GT. “I am very excited regarding the idea of participating in the WEC,” said “the Doctor”. It’s the next step for me to participate in a world championship, not only in Europe, but also around the world. I have already become familiar with the car following this season, but the format will be new to me. Overall, I think we will be very well positioned. »
If Valentino Rossi will certainly be the star of the LMGT3 category, we will find other stars of world motorsport in the Hypercar category, and in particular former Formula 1 drivers, such as Sébastien Buemi (Toyota), Robert Kubica (Ferrari), Paul Di Resta (Peugeot), Kamui Kobayashi (Toyota) and Nyck de Vries (Toyota).
