After the disappointing early exit of the national team from the European Football Championship in Germany, there were rumors that national coach Marco Rossi would quit. However, these rumors were firmly dispelled on Wednesday.
“The next task for our national team is to successfully compete in the autumn games of the Nations League and the World Cup qualifiers. They will continue to be coached by national coach Mark Rossi and with the full support of the football association,” said MLSZ President Sándor Csányi, who met with the Italian on Wednesday and assured him of the association’s unbroken trust.
At the European Championships in Germany, Hungary lost 1-3 to Switzerland and 0-2 to the hosts. Despite a subsequent 1-0 win once morest Scotland, Rossi’s team narrowly missed out on reaching the round of 16.
The Italian, who also has Hungarian citizenship and has since been reported several times as being at risk of quitting his post, thanked fans for their support and said he would start preparing for the Nations League matches in a few weeks following learning the lessons from the European Championships. “I have never run away from challenges, not even the hardest ones! I will not give up now because I live by the motto: what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!” Rossi has been coach of the Hungarian national team since summer 2018.
