Display market analyst Ross Young went to X (ex-Twitter) today to share some more details about the speculated 12.9-inch iPad Airwhich is expected to be released next month.
According to him, Apple’s new tablet, which will debut a larger size option in the Air line, will feature a backlit screen with Mini-LED — just like the current 12.9″ iPad Pro.
As Young did not mention the smaller 10.9″ model, everything indicates that it will continue with a traditional LCD screen — repeating, once again, what is seen today with the Pro line, as the 11″ model also does not count. with Mini-LED technology.
According to the analyst, this is a move by Apple to reuse the screens left over from the current 12.9″ iPad Pro. It is not yet clear, however, whether the new iPad Air will also feature the technology ProMotion (refresh rate up to 120Hz), just like the more expensive model.
As Apple never produced Mini-LED screens for the 11″ iPad Pro, it would not be possible to also bring this new feature to the most compact model in the Air line. The screen on the current iPad Air is also slightly smaller (10.9″ ), which can be another obstacle.
Mini-LED backlit LCD screens, it is worth noting, can display much deeper black colors than those with traditional LEDs, and are also brighter and better prepared for HDR content. In some ways, they resemble OLED displays, although they are not capable of turning off individual pixels to achieve the so-called “perfect black”.
Several rumors indicate that the new iPads Pro, which are also expected to launch in May, will feature OLED screens for the first time since the line’s introduction in 2015. Therefore, it makes sense that Apple is bringing an old feature from its older tablets. expensive for a more affordable line.
