Rosario Ibarra de Piedra, pioneer human rights activist in Mexico, died

Rosary Ibarra of Stonerenowned activist and pioneer in the search for missing persons, died at the age of 95 in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

The death was confirmed by the National Commission for Human Rights through his Twitter account, where he expressed his condolences to his daughter, Rosary Stone Ibarra, titular of happiness commission.

María del Rosario Ibarra de la Garza, known as Rosario Ibarra de Piedra was born in SaltilloCoahuila in 1927.

Famous as an activist, founder of one of the first organizations of mothers, fathers, relatives of the disappeared, she was a pioneer in the defense of human rights, peace and democracy in Mexico.

She was a deputy, senator and political adviser. She was the first woman to run for the Presidency of the Republic in 1982 and 1988 by the now extinct Workers’ Revolutionary Party, in 1988 before the victory of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, he joined the claims of electoral fraud.

After the forced disappearance of his son Jesus Stone Ibarraaccused of being a presumed member of the ‘Liga 23 de Septiembre’ guerrilla group, in 1974 he began his life as an activist.

Ibarra was also a senator in 2006 for the leftist Democratic Revolution Party (PRD).

In July 2019, the Chamber of Deputies granted him the Civic Merit Medal ‘Eduardo Neri y Legisladores de 1913’, which is awarded each year to citizens who have distinguished themselves by serving the community, the Republic and to humanity, standing out for its civic, political or legislative acts.

That same year, the Mexican Senate awarded him the medal Belisarius Dominguezthe greatest civil recognition of the Nation.

In addition, along with the now Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorstarred in different fights social in various parts of the country, such as the Zapatista uprising of 1994, the demand to stop and clarify the murder of women in Ciudad Juárez, and the massacres of indigenous people in Chiapas y Guerreroduring the government of President Ernesto Zedillo (1994-2000)

López Obrador regrets the death of Rosario Ibarra de Piedra

Through his Twitter account, the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorlamented the death of the activist.

“It will always remind us of the deepest love for children and solidarity with those who suffer from the disappearance of their loved ones,” he assured in a message that was accompanied by a photograph of both.

In a second message, the leader shared that his mother vote for her when she applied to the Presidency of the Republic.

“She supported us at all times and I will never forget that my mother voted for her for president of the Republic,” she said.
