Rosalía returns this year with her third album: “Motomami”

The question is: will Rosalía be able to overcome with Motomami the worldwide success she achieved with El mal querer? Two years a. C. (before the coronavirus) Rosalia Vila Tobella (Sant Esteve Sesrovires, 1993), the artist who “had not heard flamenco until the age of 13” managed to cross the Atlantic to Times Square with his second album, an album experimental and conceptual that was published on December 2, 2018, and that explains a violent relationship through 11 chapters inspired by a 13th century Occitan piece.

Something, a priori, as uncommon as singing with a soprano voice buleries or tangos conveniently revised from the point of view of his generation (that of the trap and the sampler) was a tra tra hit from his first single (Malamente Chapter 1: Augurio), and catapulted it to new levels of recognition in the music market, gaining not only the public but also the critics, thanks also to a dozen videos signed by Canada that ended up round out the groundbreaking and original artistic proposal.

Now, two years d. C. -and with a pandemic in the middle-, we know that this 2022 will surely be the relief of El mal querer, because it is a matter of days or weeks that his new album, Motomami, sees the light and find out if it meets expectations created in these more than three years of work, in which the Catalan diva has placed unsuccessful collaborations, such as «TKN», with Travis Scott; “Con altura”, with El Guincho and J. Balvin, or “Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi”, with Ozuna. So far, Rosalía has published three previews – Fame, a bachata in which she repeats with The Weeknd (and in which she counts for her video with Danny Trejo); Saoko, an urban song with a nod to Daddy Yankee, and Hentai, whose incongruous lyrics have dislodged even his staunchest fans.

The cult music magazine Rolling Stone, which has already listened to the album, says that the third album is a “masterpiece”, “innovative” and “avant-garde”. In terms of collaborations, more than the duo with The Weeknd and Dominican rapper Tokischa, the album may come loaded with front-row collaborations. As far as it goes, Pharrel Williams will be part of the production. In addition, fans are speculating on the Rosalía news portal on Twitter, @RosaliaInfo, regarding a possible collaboration with American musician Frank Ocean, author of the song Thinkin Bout You.

The secrets of the album

Beyond the game with the butterflies of the emes of the title, Motomami, there is a meaning (and not only for its cacophonous musicality). The name refers to the company Motomami SL, which Rosalía created in 2019 with her mother, Pilar Tobella, who is engaged in activities related to the representation of artists. In addition, the company, in which her mother is listed as an administrator, not only focuses on music, but also covers other areas such as acting and literature, as well as image consulting and network management. .
