The 2023 Latin Grammys were an explosion of emotions since the artists began to walk the red carpet in Seville. The music spoke as if with force, but never with more power than in the opening number by the Spanish superstar Rosalía.
Shakira also moved and the message she wanted to say beyond her songs was perfectly understood. However, there was no more forceful response than the one Rauw Alejandro gave to her ex. The hints came and went at the FIBES Conference and Exhibition Palace, where the awards were held.
The dress of revenge
Apparently very much in love, Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro spent more than two years together, much of them engaged in marriage until in July 2023 they announced that they had decided break away. Rumors of infidelity on his part gained turbo speed, until the Spanish artist herself ruled out that this was the cause of the breakup.
“I love, respect and admire Raúl very much, don’t pay attention to the movies, we know what we have experienced. This moment is not easy so thank you everyone for understanding and respecting,” Rosalía wrote on her Instagram account.
However, her decision to sing at the Latin Grammys ‘Our love broke’, the success of the legendary Rocío Jurado, and wearing a neckline exact to the so-called ‘revenge dress’ that Princess Diana wore in her first appearance after separating from the then Prince Charles did not go unnoticed.
Nor the fact that Rauw Alejandro was in the audience, accompanied by none other than his mother. The camera didn’t focus on it while she sang “our love broke from using it so much”, but it wasn’t necessary either. Rauw did not remain silent
Most artists choose songs for these types of events that they want to promote, or that unquestionably identify them. With that in mind, Alejandro Sanz did a version of ‘Corazón Partío’, for example.
However, this did not seem to be the driving force behind Rauw’s choice of repertoire. The artist released not one, not two, but three songs, and one could sense that he was singing them to Rosalía.
The first was ‘Se me fue’, by Laura Pausini, who is the ‘Person of the Year’ at these Latin Grammys. With a cream-colored trouser suit and jacket and powerful shoulder pads, Rosalía’s ex seemed to leave his soul in each note. At his feet there was a ring of fire, made with lighted candles.
His drooping and increasingly red eyes hid nothing and gave an even more heartbreaking touch to a painful lyric:
“He doesn’t even answer the phone anymore.
My hope hangs by a thread
I never thought I could lose my mind like that
For him
Because suddenly he didn’t love me anymore
Because my life became empty
Nobody answers my questions
Because nothing is left for me without him.”
Then he performed two songs. “Don’t let me go” and “Baby Hello”, both inspired by Rosalía, according to what he himself said. Surprisingly for the second, his collaboration with Bizarrap and the one he had to promote in the summer with a broken heart, had the rock support of Juanes .
Surprisingly, both of them left the ceremony of the Latin Grammys of 2023 empty-handed, since neither of them were among the winners of the night. The awards were dominated by Shakira, Natalia La Fourcade, Karol G and Bizarrap.
Internet sleuths will no doubt be on the lookout for an encounter at the after-parties. Maybe there are even more of these two from Seville.
