Rosa Devés Alessandri will be the first female rector of the University of Chile

the academic Rosa Deves Alessandri won in the first round elections for the Rector of the University of Chileand will become the first woman to occupy this position in the 180 years of history of the house of studies.

Deves got 51.6 percent of the vote and will replace Ennio Vivaldiwho completed two periods at the head of the “House of Bello”.

The current academic vice-rector of the institution graduated as a biochemist at the sameand as a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, with postdoctoral studies in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

was previously pro-rector of the House of Bello (2010-2014), and before that he served as Director of the Postgraduate and Postgraduate Department of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

In addition it has been professor of biophysics at the university’s Faculty of Medicine since 1980and has researched in the field of cell physiology.

Among other public personalities, the future rector was congratulated via social networks for the Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Ávila (DR)which celebrated his “immense achievement and example”.
