HOUSTON — Rookie Royce Lewis returned a home run and four RBIs in his season debut. Ryan Jeffers drove in two runs in the tenth as the Minnesota Twins beat the Houston Astros 7-5 on Monday night.

Lewis returned exactly one year following he tore the ACL in his right knee for the second time when he collided with the outfield wall while going for a catch. The first pick in the 2017 draft underwent reconstructive surgery days later, bringing his first season to a close following 12 games.

Max Kepler led off the tenth as an automatic runner before Jeffers sent the ball into the left-field crowd on the first pitch from Bryan Abreu (2-1).

Lewis put Minnesota ahead with a three-run homer in the third and the Astros turned it around with Jose Altuve’s grand slam in the seventh. But Lewis surged back late and tied it with a two-out RBI single off Ryan Pressly in the ninth.

Jhoan Duran (1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to send the game into extra-innings.

For the Twins, Puerto Ricans Carlos Correa 5-0 with a run scored, Willi Castro 5-2 with a run scored.

For the Astros, Venezuelan José Altuve went 4-1 with one run scored and four RBIs. The Dominican Jeremy Peña 4-0. The Cubans Yordan Álvarez 4-0 with a run scored, José Abreu 3-1 with a run scored. Honduran Mauricio Dubón 4-2 with a run scored. Puerto Rican Martín Maldonado 3-1.
