The American singer of ‘rock and roll’ Ronnie Spector died on Wednesday at the age of 78 following a brief battle with cancer, as confirmed by his family in a statement, without revealing further details.

“Ronnie lived her life with a twinkle in her eyes, a brave attitude, a great sense of black humor, and a smile on her face. She was full of love and gratitude,” the note reads, quoted by AP.

The artist, born Veronica Bennett, was the frontman of The Ronettes, a female musical group of the 1960s. Along with her sister Estelle Bennett and her cousin Nedra Talley, she had hits with songs like ‘Baby, I Love You’, ‘Walking in the Rain ‘,’ I Can Hear Music ‘and’ Be My Baby ‘, which he co-authored with Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich.
