Mexico City, Jul 15 (EFE).- Venezuelan Pachuca forward Salomón Rondón, the best foreign player in Mexican soccer in the first half of 2024, leads the Liga MX team that will face MLS stars on July 24 in the all-star game scheduled for Lower.com Field in Columbus.
Rondón, the all-time leading scorer for the Venezuelan national team, was the top scorer in the league and the Concacaf Champions Cup, in which his team was crowned champion and earned the right to play in the next Club World Cup.
The 30-player team is made up of the 14 nominees for the Liga MX Ballon d’Or in the 2023-2024 campaign, plus 14 chosen by Brazilian coach André Jardine, from América, who won the Ballon d’Or, and two selected by the president of Liga MX, Mikel Arriola.
Spanish midfielder Sergio Canales, from Monterrey, his compatriot Álvaro Fidalgo, from América; Colombian Nelson Deossa, from Pachuca; and Argentine Juan Brunetta, who began the season with Santos Laguna and finished it with Tigres, are among the players called up.
The big absentee is America’s Henry Martin, who had an excellent season and is in excellent sporting form, but was excluded from the Mexican team that failed in the Copa America.
