Ronaldo’s successor → ‘luggage’ falls… Real decision to stay despite transfer request

Mariano is insisting on staying despite Real Madrid’s transfer request.

[골닷컴] Reporter Choi Dae-hoon = Mariano Dias, who once wore the number 7 jersey following Cristiano Ronaldo, has no intention of leaving the club despite a transfer request from Real Madrid.

On the 25th (local time), Spanish media ‘Marca’ reported that “Real does not want to ask for a single euro to release Mariano, but Mariano does not want to leave.”

Mariano joined Real’s youth team ahead of the 2012/13 season and became a member of Real Madrid. Although he was not given a chance to make his first-team debut because he was a member of U-Steam, Mariano proved his ability by fulfilling his role in his position.

After being called up from Real Madrid C, considered the third and youth team, to Real Madrid Castilla, the second team, Mariano continued to play. Eventually, Mariano was called up on Real’s pre-season tour in 2016/17 and made his first-team debut as a substitute in a league match once morest Celta Vigo.

However, Mariano, who was only a promising youngster, was given few opportunities and moved to France’s prestigious Olympique Lyon right before the 2017/18 season to secure playing time. Mariano scored 21 goals and 6 assists in 45 matches in all competitions, and Real Madrid brought him back following a season of release.

After Ronaldo, a key player in the team, left for Juventus, Real selected Mariano as a substitute for him. Mariano received a lot of expectations from the club to take over Ronaldo’s jersey number 7, but his performance was insufficient.

In the first season of his return, he only scored 4 goals in 22 matches in all competitions, degrading himself to an out-of-power player, and it was difficult to sit on the bench due to Luka Jovic and others. As a result, Real have decided to dispose of Mariano, who has become a surplus player, and have been looking for a team to take him from in 2019.

Real insist that a move to Mariano is the solution for both the club and the players and are not going to charge a single penny for his career, but Mariano is insisting on staying.

A year ago, Real took the lead on Mariano’s loan to Rayo Vallecano and tried to take over the full down payment, but this was thwarted by Mariano’s refusal. In this summer’s transfer window, several La Liga clubs have contacted Real over a move for Mariano, but Mariano has turned down all offers.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti made it clear to Mariano that he had no place in the starting lineup. As Real’s last option, Mariano, who played only 392 minutes last season, has turned down all transfer offers as if he didn’t care. Mariano looks set to stick with Real until next year, when his contract expires.
