Manchester United coach Ralph Rangnick said today, Friday, that the attacking duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are in good physical condition and fully ready to face Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Ronaldo did not play in the Manchester derby at the weekend due to a thigh injury, while Cavani has not played since early February due to a groin problem.
United are looking to recover following the 4-1 loss at Manchester City, which caused Rangnick’s team to drop to fifth place, one point behind Arsenal. But he played three games more than Arsenal.
United are two points ahead of Tottenham, who have two matches in hand.
“Cristiano resumed training yesterday,” Rangnick said at a press conference. He did the full training session and I expect him to train today as well. He trained well, like the rest of the group, so I think he’s ready for tomorrow’s match. He returned with Cavani to training and in full readiness for the match.
But left-back Luke Shaw will be absent following contracting Covid-19, while midfielder Scott McTominay is in doubt as Rangnick is busy with the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 next week at home to Atletico Madrid, where the two teams tied 1-1 in the first leg.
Rangnick added: “Scott’s participation is skeptical. He has some issues with his calf so we have to wait for an evaluation of his condition following training today. At the moment he is likely to be absent because if we risk him tomorrow, he will likely be out of our calculations on Tuesday.. I tend to be cautious.
