If it is very unlikely to see the start Romelu Lukaku this evening against Real Madrid – he has not started a match since March 19, against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup – his coach Thomas Tuchel got into the habit of raising it during the game. Against Lille, in the knockout stages of the Champions League, the Red Devil only came up in the return match, for 16 short minutes.
His coach then took advantage of the international break to give his striker a week off. “Romelu had a week’s vacation and had time to blow off steam,” Tuchel said at a pre-match press conference, in comments echoed by the Newspaper.
And he repeats it: he still counts on Lukaku despite this slack that has been going on for a few months already. “He’s still in my plans, I feel he’s very motivated and very involved in one-on-one matches. He still has an important role. Maybe not the role he would love to, but…he’s a winner and he always will be.”
