135 thousand euros for first place

23 proposals arrived in the international competition. The Labics studio will receive a prize of 135 thousand euros, net of social security charges and VAT. The competitors classified from 2nd to 5th – all groups of professionals, respectively led by Giorgia Colombo, Luigi Franciosini, Marco Pietrolucci and Eugenio Cipollone – are entitled to an expense reimbursement of 100 thousand euros.

In the project works worth 18.8 million

The administration’s objective is the creation of a large pedestrian ring that takes up the idea of ​​Minister Baccelli’s late nineteenth-century Promenade, with works costing an estimated 18.8 million. The New Archaeological Walk will have to connect the entire central archaeological area of ​​the city – from the Forum to the Colosseum, the Celion, the Palatine, the Baths of Caracalla, the Circus Maximus, up to the Capitoline Hill – reconnecting it with the modern city and daily life of the surrounding districts. An itinerary that will connect the Fori with the other routes around the Palatine, intercepting the cycle-pedestrian route of via di S. Gregorio, via dei Cerchi, via di S. Teodoro and the ascents and descents of the Capitoline Hill. With an increase in services, including pedestrian spaces, green areas, balconies, elevated routes and cycle-pedestrian routes.

The evaluation criteria

The Labics project was selected based on five criteria: the compatibility of the proposal with the framework of the activities planned by the PA and the strategic objectives; the quality in the relationship between the space object of the competition and the surrounding fabric and functional organization of the spaces and elements proposed; the compositional aspects, creativity, originality and innovative contents of the proposal; the innovative quality of the proposal in reference to the choice of materials and technological solutions and the simplicity of maintenance and management; compliance with the invariants and consistency with the guidelines and the proposed economic parameters.

The roadmap

The provisional ranking will now be subject to legal checks, then the winning firm will proceed with the improvement of the technical-economic feasibility project. At the end of this phase, the Services Conference will be called, and in the meantime the executive project will be assigned and the tender will be announced. If all deadlines are respected, the work can begin by September.
