A new controversy shakes the Italian educational landscape, this time with an episode involving a school in Rome. The Ada Negri municipal nursery school, in the “Via Latina 303” comprehensive school, has decided not to celebrate Father’s Day, sparking debate and criticism. The reason for this choice was indicated as “inclusion”, following the guidelines of the Municipality of Rome. Marco Perissa, deputy of Fratelli d’Italia, raised a strong protest once morest this decision: “Without prejudice to the possibility of studying personalized situations for classes in which there are children with particular family situations behind them, I consider it absurd and discriminatory that we should cancel one of the most heartfelt anniversaries in our tradition, canceling – the declarations reported by Il Giornale – the figure of the father and mother in the name of political correctness”.
This episode recalls the controversies that already arose during the Christmas period, when some schools avoided any form of religious celebration so as not to offend the sensitivity of children of different faiths compared to the Christian one. Furthermore, in Milan, in recent days, a school has decided to close for Ramadan, despite the majority of students not being of Islamic faith, sparking a strong debate at a national level.
