Brazilian Igor Coronado, the midfielder who recently returned to his country through the Corinthians portal, coming from Al-Ittihad, revealed the desire of his compatriot Romarinho, the “Tigers” striker, to follow in his footsteps and leave the Western club.
This came during his presentation conference, which was held by his new club, on Tuesday, and was reported by various press platforms, including the Brazilian “Globo” news site.
Coronado referred to the role of “Roma” in his choice to move to Corinthians, saying: “Romarinho longs to return here, as he loves this club and its history. “I don’t know if he will come, but he spoke to me positively regarding Corinthians, and our partnership is good and I dream of repeating it here once more.”
He explained the reason for his departure from Al-Ittihad by saying: “If I stayed in Saudi Arabia, I would not participate, because only 8 foreigners might play, while the team roster included 10.”
He added: “My agent told me regarding returning to Brazil when the transfer window opened, and I felt that there was no better experience than going to Corinthians.”
Romarinho wore the same Brazilian club logo between 2012 and 2014, before leaving his country to move to the Qatari army, and from there to Al-Jazeera in the Emirates, then Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2018.
As for Coronado, he played 71 matches with Al-Ittihad, which he joined in the summer of 2021 from Sharjah, UAE. He scored 16 goals and assisted 32 others, and won the league and Saudi Super Cup double last season.
