Season dominator Mikaela Shiffrin also wins the last race of the winter and celebrates her 88th World Cup victory in the Soldeu giant. After the triumph, the American gives a very special interview.
Mikaela Shiffrin also proved at the World Cup finals in Soldeu that she is currently in a class of her own in giant slalom. For the seventh time in total and for the fifth time in a row, she won a race in this discipline this season – and continued her record hunt.
With her 138th podium finish, the American drew level with Marcel Hirscher, making it the sole record holder for women and replacing Lindsey Vonn with her 137 podium finishes. In addition, Shiffrin outstripped Vreni Schneider (20) with her 21st giant triumph.
After the next milestone, the 28-year-old may or must answer questions from the numerous reporters in Andorra – and gets temporarily out of step. Because during the official winner’s interview, she was surprised by her friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
The Norwegian downhill crack asks his partner a few questions as an interviewer. “Pretty crazy. You break record following record. Which one is next?” is one of them.
The otherwise eloquent Shiffrin can hardly manage a straight sentence with laughter and seems to want to get the conversation over with as quickly as possible. When asked what she needs to improve for the coming season, she says: “We can discuss it privately later.” Nevertheless, there is a kiss at the end of the special interview.
