Romania denounced this Saturday the discovery of new pieces of Russian drones in its territory.

The Ministry of Defense reported that these were fragments of drones “similar to those used by the Moscow army” that fell southeast of the Romanian village of Plauru, near the Ukrainian port of Izmail. It has not been possible to identify, however, when or from where the drone in question was launched.

“I strongly condemn this absolutely unacceptable violation of our sovereign airspace, which constitutes a threat to Romanian citizens in the area,” declared President Klaus Iohannis.

Likewise, being part of NATO, the official contacted the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, who repudiated these “destabilizing” actions but provided peace of mind by ensuring that there is “no indication of intention” to attack the country.

“We are awaiting the outcome of an ongoing investigation,” he added, anyway.

It should be remembered that any action directed at any of the member countries implies the automatic response of the bloc in its defense.

“Within NATO, Romania is very well defended and benefits from the strongest security guarantees in our entire history,” Iohannis said.

This discovery is the second of the style this week. This Wednesday, Romania had already reported the appearance of drone fragments in an area near the border with Ukraine that, according to first indications, would have been used in Russian attacks on the night of Sunday to Monday.

As a result of these episodes, the Defense Ministry began an investigation and extended the search tasks while working to reinforce “airspace surveillance and security measures.”

“The area has been secured by the military and the discovered elements will be collected for analysis and technical expertise,” they stated.

For its part, the Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU by its acronym in Roman) promoted mechanisms to guarantee emergency information to the population and shelters will be built in nearby towns.

Meanwhile, to contribute to this protection task, earlier this week, the United States Department of State announced the sending of more F-16 fighter jets to the country, which will join NATO surveillance missions.

“I welcome the US decision to take off more F-16s for NATO air surveillance. We stand in solidarity with Romania,” Stoltenberg celebrated.

Attacks on Ukrainian river ports, just a few hundred meters from the Romanian border, have intensified recently as Moscow attempts to sabotage Kiev’s grain exports to world markets.

Without going any further, on Wednesday night, the Kremlin once more attacked port infrastructure in the Izmail district of Odessa, in what was the fourth offensive there in the last five days.

This last episode lasted for three hours and, as a consequence, “several areas suffered damage,” said the head of the Military Administration of the region, Oleg Kiper.
