Romania exported electricity to Ukraine, via the Republic of Moldova, throughout this week and continues today, based on the bilateral agreement for aid in emergency situations, according to Transelectrica and Moldelectrica data, analyzed by HotNews.ro.

The state of Ukraine’s energy system appeared to have improved slightly on Sunday, as the relevant ministry in Kiev announced it would resume exports, albeit in smaller volumes. Imports will continue, however, in significant quantities.
Romania’s electricity exports to Ukraine started last Sunday and continued throughout the week, with an average of 400-500 MW and a peak of over 800 MW in the evening hours.
On Sunday, at 11:30, a quantity of electricity of 330 MW left Romania.
The representatives of Transelectrica specified, for HotNews.ro, that Romania offers help at the request of the Ukrainian transport and system operator based on the bilateral agreement for help in emergency situations (Contract on Provision of Mutual Emergency Energy Delivery for Securing the System Services between Power Systems of Ukraine and Romania) and according to the procedure established by this agreement.
What the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy says
Ukraine plans to resume electricity exports on Sunday, but in smaller volumes, and expects substantial power imports during peak consumption periods, the energy ministry in Kyiv said.
“No electricity shortages or emergency assistance are forecast for today,” the ministry said in a statement quoted by Reuters.
The ministry said regarding 139 megawatt hours (Mwh) might be exported on Sunday and imports would be 8,430 Mwh.
Ukraine suddenly increased its electricity imports and halted exports following a series of attacks on its power system in late March and early April.
Emergency aid from Romania, Poland and Slovakia
On Saturday, due to the power lines damaged by the Russian attacks, in the areas of Krivoi Rog and Kharkiv, controlled shutdowns of the energy supply were being applied, according to UNN.
Due to network constraints on the transmission and system operator’s lines, scheduled outages were implemented in the Kharkiv region and Krivoi Rog on Friday and continued on Saturday, Ukraine’s energy ministry said.
The needs of the consumers were covered by own production, imports and emergency aid (from Poland, Slovakia and Romania), stated the quoted source.
The volume of emergency aid amounted to less than 2 percent of daily consumption on Saturday, Ukraine’s energy ministry said.
