The Italian Football Federation opened an investigation following the dismissal of two employees from the Roma club, following the publication of a sex tape between them leaked by a player in the under-19 team.

The case sparked controversy in Italy due to alleged discrimination, and a left-wing lawmaker said she would raise the issue in Parliament.

According to Italian newspapers, the minor player was able to access the phone of an administrative employee at the club last November, under the pretext of having to make a call to his agent.

Reports said that a video clip was then found showing the woman having “intimate relations” with a club official.

He then shared the video with other players, including members of the Galorossi’s first team.

The club management fired the two employees following this incident.

On Friday, Roma denounced “a clear attempt to attack and destabilize the club at a pivotal moment in the football season.”

Roma currently occupies fifth place in the Italian League and has reached the quarter-finals of the European League (Europa League), where it faces its compatriot Milan.

The club revealed that the expulsion came “as a result of a circumstance that, in addition to being in violation of the club’s charter of ethics, objectively determined the impossibility of continuing the working relationship with the club, also in light of their duties in continuous coordination with minors.”

The club continued, “The facts were used to suggest the existence of sexual discrimination and disparate treatment, while the decision to (expel) the man in question came at the same time,” like the employee.
