Since the release of the first album 16 years ago tomas roll Not only are they united, they are constantly finding new musical ways to express themselves and deal with their circumstances. The British quintet’s healthy chaos can be at least as rough and sophisticated as it sounds, as interesting, melodic and progressive as it sounds. After completing an extremely powerful trilogy, they conclude their most ambitious release cycle to date with a live record. “Electronic Dance Hall Live Broadcast” Although it “only” appears in digital form, it also highlights this form as an additional category of audio-only files.
A proud 73 minutes of music, punctuated only by extremely charming announcements – and the band seemed overwhelmed on multiple occasions by the well-deserved positive reception – there was no mercy. “Almost Always” is a near-perfect opener, rising quietly, barely noticeable, and emerging from the existential jungle with a harsh, distorted tone. Eva Komen at her best delivers her strong, bell-like voice as the sky slowly darkens. The fact that the “invisible” situations immediately become darker and more threatening fits this picture. Brutal, deafening roars and escalating chaos spread. Rollo Tomasi’s lovable madness will be deftly defined.
However, these two routes only scratch the surface at best. And of course there’s the epic “A Flood Of Light,” which gradually develops from shy announcements and synth carpets into late-stage and progressive highlights. The empty sonic space becomes a work of art, and the song can and should work before the climax’s primal scream rocks everything. The relatively head-on approach of “Contretemps” also had its charm, with Rollo Tomasi gradually advancing and escalating in the stands, eventually slaying the all-rounder in unexpectedly idyllic fashion. Tracks like “Opalescent” are embedded between two short interludes and represent a dramatic masterclass from the British five-piece.
Part of you have to say this is a live record, and that’s how clean and powerful Rolo Tomassi feels here. In terms of atmosphere alone, this recording is larger than life, capturing what is special about this formation and growing with each run. To say it’s a resounding success wouldn’t even do justice to “Live At Electric Ballroom” – a music-intensive experience, atmospheric, unpredictable in the best sense, technically demanding, yet Organic, full of heart and soul. Just like in the studio, Rollo Tomasi also embarks on an unprecedented triumphal journey on stage, proving once again that even on a good day, no one can keep up with them.
