Roller coaster passengers have to walk down the ramp due to strong gusts

The stop comes just below the highest point of the roller coaster, which is around 70 meters high. The passengers then have to climb the rest of the steep ramp on foot, accompanied by security personnel.

The manager of the King’s Boutique Hotel, Georgina Harrison, captured the whole event in photos. From the terrace of her hotel she has a perfect view of “The Big One”.

“We can see everything that happens on the roller coaster and I was surprised to see this,” she says. “But I’m glad I was able to watch the whole thing from afar.”

When it opened in 1994, “The Big One” was described as the tallest and steepest roller coaster in the world. The operator of the cable car also offers guided walks to its summit and back.

Around 30 years following opening, it is still the highest roller coaster in Great Britain. According to the newspaper, the “Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure” in the USA is now the world’s highest railway.
