the essential Roland Magdane presents his new show this Friday, August 4 at 9:30 p.m. in Valence-d’Agen as part of the Canal en Scène festival. Interview with the comedian who is soon celebrating his 50th career.
What are you going to tell us regarding in your show?
In my new show “Life for two is wonderful” I talk regarding couple problems. It is a subject that speaks to everyone. The show is of course inspired by my personal stories, but the goal is of course to make everyone laugh and have a good time together.
Is this a timeless problem?
Yes, it’s still the same story, it hasn’t changed over time. At 40, 60, what I talk regarding in my show is how women and men can live together. There are always beautiful and funny stories to tell, regardless of age. You know, as long as there is human stupidity, there will always be something to laugh regarding, and as Einstein said, “human stupidity is a bottomless pit”.
Has your tour been a success so far?
It worked very well. During the Covid period, it was a little slack for the whole profession, but now that it’s gone once more people want to get together, to have a good evening together, especially with the news which is very busy in this moment. That’s why I give the maximum to each of my shows to make my audience laugh and of course to keep them coming back.
I’d rather focus on my shows than do a 3 minute joke on a today show and then walk away
We see you less in the media these days…
It’s true, I appear less in the media. It must also be said that there are less or even more variety shows, and it was a very interesting format. I prefer to devote myself to my shows, some of which are sometimes broadcast on television, rather than doing a 3-minute joke on a today’s show and then leaving.
You have tried a lot of things in your career, in particular you participated in a series in the USA for a few years…
Absolutely, I’ve been doing one-man shows since the 1980s, but I’ve done a lot of things: cinema, series, television… But these are always things that come along the way and that I take enjoy doing.
Do you have plans ?
I am celebrating my 50th career soon, so I would like to mark the occasion. I will probably build my new show at the Toulouse casino next spring, which will consist of the 50 best sketches of my career. It will be a kind of best-of, for all those who have missed a few or for the youngest who do not know some of them.
Will you come back to Tarn-et-Garonne on this occasion?
Of course ! As I tour, it’s a place I know well, and I won’t hesitate to come back with a future show.
