Mumbai: Unconfirmed report that Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma may retire from Twenty20 cricket. It is known that Rohit had discussed this with the BCCI officials even before the ODI Cricket World Cup. The 36-year-old Rohit is considering such a possibility in an attempt to make the most of the last phase of his career by focusing only on Test cricket and ODI cricket.

The Twenty20 World Cup will be held in the US and West Indies next year. Rohit has yet to play for India in this format following losing in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. Apart from Rohit, the availability of Virat Kohli, Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja in Twenty20 cricket is also in doubt.

At the same time, it is indicated that the BCCI has taken the position that Rohit and Kohli can decide their future in Twenty20 cricket by themselves. Kohli is one year younger than Rohit.

Rohit Sharma has played 148 international Twenty20 matches. He has also scored 3843 runs at a strike rate of 140. There is also a strong argument that Rohit’s impressive batting style in the ODI World Cup will benefit India more in the Twenty20 format.

None of the senior players have been included in the Indian team for the Twenty20 series once morest Australia. Hardik Pandya has been India’s T20 captain for some time now. In the absence of Pandya, who was injured during the World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team once morest Australia.
