The Indian Premier League is set to start from March 31. It is between the current champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. Facing each other in the opening match of the 16th edition of the P.L.
Earlier, there were reports that during the busy schedule of the Indian Premier League, which lasts for two months, all the leading players will be allowed to rest.
But the former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar has come forward expressing his opposition to allowing the top players of the Indian team to rest during the IPL.
Manjrekar opined that allowing big players to rest in the midst of big-budget and fan-supported tournaments like the IPL is not the right trend and should not be encouraged by the team’s management.
“The success of IPL depends on the performance and fitness of the players. This league has a huge influence among the fans. “I am not a person who supports the notion that players should rest during the IPL for the sake of the World Cup,” said Manjrekar.
“In IPL, the management does not have any restriction on playing the players in every match. They are spending huge amount of money for this tournament.
That is why IPL has gained so much popularity,’ he added.
It was decided to allow the players to rest in the IPL to play the final of the World Test Championship and to reduce the risk of injury to the players in the ODI World Cup.
