Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) grabbed the Tour of Italy leader’s pink jersey on the eve of the finish in Rome. The Slovenian flew over the 20th stage, a terrible 18.6 km time trial disputed between Tarvisio and Monte Lussari.
Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) will win his first Tour of Italy on Sunday, barring an accident. Impressive on Saturday, Roglic took no less than 40 seconds from former leader Geraint Thomas, whom he leads by 14 seconds overall. The triple winner of the Vuelta (2019, 2020, 2021) and 2nd in the Tour de France 2020 was however the victim of a chain break in the final part.
Primoz Roglic only had a 15-second lead over Geraint Thomas when he suffered this mechanical problem. But he pulled out all the stops in the last kilometer of the terrible final climb, unlike his Welsh rival who cracked at the worst moment.
