Roger Lambrecht, former chairman of Lokeren, dies aged 90

Roger Lambrecht died Tuesday at the age of 90. The information was confirmed by KSC Lokeren-Thames, the club’s new name since the bankruptcy of Sporting Lokeren in 2020.

Lambrecht was the president of Sporting Lokeren for 25 years. The tire magnate took office in 1994. He succeeded Gaston Keppens. The main feats of arms under his ‘reign’ were the victories in the Belgian Cup in 2012 and 2014.

The end of his presidency was much less auspicious, since in 2019, when he left the club to leave it in the hands of Louis de Vries, Sporting Lokeren had just been demoted to D1B. A year later, the club was officially deregistered due to bankruptcy.

“Roger Lambrecht had the merit of placing Lokeren on the map of Belgian football and even outside our borders. His leadership often aroused admiration in the world of football, but also sometimes criticism,” said Lokeren-Tamise. “KSC Lokeren-Thames and the entire Lokeren football community wish to offer their condolences to the family for this heavy loss. »
