There is a fixed star in Roger Köppel’s firmament: the fascination for strength. Even as a young feuilletonist he asked himself: “Do you dare to call this film Chabis – or are you also a coward?” Later, already at the “Weltwoche”, he saw himself as the editor-in-chief of the first front line: “We were the first to knock on the state’s fortress walls and therefore got bad luck and brimstone on the grind. The others then marched following them at a safe distance, with their beautiful foulards.” And when the reporter Daniel Ryser researched a biography regarding him, Köppel asked him: “Is someone like you really strong enough to write what is real?”
