On the evening of May 11, ROG officially released the ROG Ally portable game console. The biggest highlight of this portable game console is the first AMD Z1 Extreme handheld processor. From the perspective of specifications, although AMD Z1 Extreme is basically the same as R7 7840U, it has been specially optimized for portable game consoles, so the experience has been improved. But how much has it improved?
Now foreign media NoteBookCheck has brought us the test results of the AMD Z1 Extreme processor.
Let’s look at the CPU performance first. In the Cinebench R23 test, the single-core score of the Z1 Extreme is 1779 points, and the multi-core score is 14960 points. Compared with the previous generation R7 6800U, this result has been greatly improved, and even the multi-core performance is ahead of i7-1360P.
In terms of GPU performance, in the 3DMark FireStrike and Time Spy tests, the Z1 Extreme’s core display score is 2-3% higher than the R7 7840U’s Radeon 780M core display average score, basically no substantial improvement.
In terms of other specifications, although the appearance of the ROG portable game console is smaller than that of the Steam Deck, the screen is still 7 inches, and the resolution has been increased to 1080p, the refresh rate has also reached 120Hz, and the brightness is 500nit. The fuselage has built-in dual fans + single heat pipe for cooling. In terms of interface, the ROG portable game console is equipped with USB-C and Micro SD card slots, as well as a proprietary graphics dock interface, supports the latest ROG RTX4090 Mobile, and can replace SSD. The battery capacity is 40Wh.
