Although the presidential candidate Rodolfo Hernandez decided to go without alliances until the end of the conflict, his possible arrival at the House of Nariño would allow him reconsider the adherence of figures such as Federico Gutiérrezwho was one of his strongest opponents until May 29, when he was left out of the second round of elections.
This was announced in an interview in Miami with the presenter Jaime Bayly, who reminded him that Gutiérrez showed his support from the day he lost in the first round (May 29)despite the heavy blow that the defeat meant both for him and for the Team for Colombia coalition, given that the polls showed him as the second favorite, following the candidate Gustavo Petro, with whom Hernández will now compete for the Presidency.
“If you win, if you are president, would you consider summoning Federico Gutiérrez to your government, to your cabinet?” Was the question Jaime Bayly asked the candidate who he went to Miami precisely to win the votes of Gutiérrezwho received 80% of the votes of Colombians living in this US city.
“It’s time to think regarding it,” Hernandez replied forcefully, despite the fact that Bayly insisted that he give a more forceful answer. However, he was not dissatisfied with the idea and did not rule it out.
Despite the fact that Gutiérrez stated on May 29 that he would vote for Rodolfo Hernández, the former presidential candidate was emphatic that “Rodolfo and his team” will be the ones “responsible for their actions within the government.” Likewise, he clarified that neither his vice-presidential formula, Rodrigo Lara, nor he sought to be part of the Hernández government, which he has sustained at other later times.
Hernández has argued regarding Gutiérrez that he is the candidate of former President Álvaro Uribe and represents Uribismo. That was precisely why he ruled out joining him, although he did call him to thank him for the supportas confirmed later.
“Zero alliances. Zero Uribe. Zero Petro. Zero everything. We are going to work with the Colombians. When I signed up on June 15 I swore to be independent and until now we continue like this “were the words of the candidate of the Governors Anticorruption League when he went to the second round, who has also stressed that his only alliance is “with the Colombian people.”
