New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still unsure if he will play in the Jets’ final preseason game against the New York Giants on Saturday.
And Rodgers ruled out trying to convince coach Robert Saleh.
Rodgers is expected to participate in the Jets’ joint practice with the Giants today. And if he doesn’t play, the practice session would serve as the final dress rehearsal before the regular-season opener in San Francisco on Sept. 9.
“Whether we play on Saturday or not, who knows?” Rodgers said. “If Saleh wants us to do it, we will do it.”
Saleh said Monday that the coaches would discuss how they would manage playing time for Rodgers and the starters after the joint practice.
“Most of these practices have been pretty heavy,” Rodgers said. “I assume based on the situation, he’ll probably get some type of two-minute period. So there’s a good chance.”
Rodgers, 40, is in his 20th season.
“I would say camp is a lot tougher this year and maybe the toughest in the last seven or eight years of my career,” Rodgers said. “I knew that. Coming into camp, I had a little idea that this was what Robert wanted to do.”
Rodgers’ next snap in a game, whether preseason or regular season, will be his first since tearing his left Achilles tendon just four snaps into last season’s opener against Buffalo.
