Roda JC Kerkrade won 3-0 against MVV in the Geusselt. Bas Sibum’s team won well deserved and were lord and master, especially in the second half. Goals were scored by Arjen van der Heide (2x) and Vaclav Sejk.
Round 30 meant the derby in Maastricht this season. The match started quietly when visiting MVV. The first shot between the posts immediately resulted in a goal. A good free kick from Arjen van der Heide made it 0-1. In the first half hour there were also opportunities for Vaclav Sejk and Van der Heide, but they did not score.
After half an hour of play, MVV came more into the match. Goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie managed to distinguish himself by cleverly turning an attempt by Dailon Livramento. Not much later, Enrique Peña Zauner completely missed the ball on a good chance. In transition, the ball came to Bryan Smeets. The MVV midfielder shot just wide. Before halftime, Roda JC came close to scoring twice. Peña Zauner saw another shot blocked and Nils Röseler headed onto the crossbar.
The Kerkrade team hit the starting blocks in the second half. Within five minutes, the scorer had three chances to double the score. The first time the attempt lacked power, the second time the shot ended up in the side netting and the third time goalkeeper Romain Matthys prevented the 0-2. That second goal eventually came. This time Van der Heide was the complainant. After a nice attack, the winger kept an overview and served Sejk. The striker took the ball and shot into the long corner.
The team continued and looked for a third goal. Roda JC was already close via Peña Zauner. However, his beautiful shot from distance was well saved by goalkeeper Matthys. Less than five minutes later the third goal was scored. Van der Heide scored again, after excellent work by Lucas Beerten.
In the remainder of the match, Roda JC did not encounter any problems at all. The match was marred ten minutes before the end by some MVV supporters. While Rodney Kongolo was injured on the field, several players were concerned about our captain. Goalkeeper Raatsie then had to pay for this with a beer shower. Referee Pol van Boekel stopped the match for a few minutes, but football soon resumed.
There were no more goals scored in De Geusselt and partly because of this Roda JC won convincingly 3-0 against MVV Maastricht!
