The first trailer for GTA 6 has revived the trend around the flagship license from Rockstar Games studios. But while doubts around ‘canceled’ DLC for GTA 5 persisted, a leak would have confirmed this theory. Grand Theft Auto fans are not happy to discover this new information, and some are even planning to boycott GTA 6 for this reason!
DLCs that never saw the light of day
On December 25, leaks of the source code of GTA 5 have emerged on the social network (formerly Twitter). These revealed a host of details regarding the game’s content, including Bully 2, GTA Tokyo, Agent and several DLCs for GTA 5 that never saw the light of day. According to files revealed on the network, the GTA 5 DLC should have allowed players to return to Liberty City, the setting of GTA IV and GTA Chinatown Wars. Unfortunately for fans of these opuses, the DLC in question never saw the light of day, leaving players convinced that the success of GTA Online’s business model is to blame.
“GTA 5 source code leak confirms that Liberty City was to be added as an expansion alongside other packs similar to RDR1’s DLC.”

“Rockstar will pay for this”
Of course, we can imagine that the colossal success of GTA Online might have pushed the Rockstar teams to put aside ‘canceled’ DLC to focus on live service content. With GTA Online being an ever-changing environment that contains microtransactions, it almost makes sense for the company to offer free updates rather than DLC that requires a one-time payment.
Despite the studios’ efforts to best integrate this new content, the cancellation of this Liberty City DLC disappointed fans. Liberty City is a place that longtime fans would have been happy to see reimagined. On social networks, GTA fans wanted to make their dissatisfaction known and claimed they were going to get revenge on GTA 6.
“Liberty V is the last single player DLC and I see videos of DLC online with characters from IV. All that was abandoned to shovel ideas into the stupid online because they sell billions of shark cards. I won’t touch not at 6 because of this shit.”

In fact, it is unlikely that a real boycott of GTA 6 will be put in place because of the cancellation of the GTA 5 DLCs. The excitement around Rockstar’s next production is such that it is difficult to imagine that all these fans decide not to buy the game. It is also important to specify that this information comes from leaks, and that they have yet to be confirmed by Rockstar Games studios!
