Fifteen years ago, nothing was hotter in the world of video games than “playing” rock songs on a plastic guitar. Guitar Hero was huge and spawned rock bands that had an equally large audience. Unfortunately, Activision and Harmonix flew too close to the sun and milked the concept so aggressively that it was pretty much dead from one year to the next. Since then, the genre has been all but dead, save for a quick attempt to revive it in 2015 with Guitar Hero Live and Rock Band 4, neither of which were commercially successful. Luckily, it looks like we might get to play rock stars again in the not-too-distant future. So, you know, the endless possibilities for the future, it’s incredibly exciting. While this is certainly not confirmation, it sounds like Guitar Hero is about to get a new Guitar Hero title after Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard. The opportunity is expected to happen this week. How can you get a plastic guitar to play rock music on TV again?
