At least six people were killed in a rocket attack on the hometown of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, Kryvyi Rih, according to Ukrainian sources. At least 25 others were injured.

According to Ukrainian sources, Russia carried out a “massive rocket attack” on the city of Kryvyi Rih in the center of the country during the night. According to the authorities, a five-story residential building was also hit. According to Mayor Oleksandr Wilkul, at least six people were killed. At least 25 others were injured, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Serhiy Lyssak, wrote on Telegram. The attack also damaged a nearby warehouse and vehicles. Rescue teams searched for more people under the rubble, Lyssak said.

Kryvyi Rih is the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On Twitter, he shared a video showing firefighters battling the blaze and charred vehicles. “Terrorists will never be forgiven and they will be held accountable for every missile they launch,” he said.

Attacks on other cities

Air alerts were also declared early in the morning in several other regions of Ukraine. The Russians had fired cruise missiles once more, including at the capital Kiev, the authorities there said.

There, however, their own air defense shot down all enemy flying objects. There have been reports of drone strikes from the eastern city of Kharkiv, which are said to have damaged several buildings and vehicles.

Russia reports shelling in border region

Attacks were also reported from the Russian side. Ukraine shelled villages in Russia’s Kursk Oblast early in the morning. Several houses were damaged. Two more caught fire, Kursk governor Roman Starovoyt said on Telegram. The gas and electricity supply had been interrupted. The villages of Tjorkino and Glushkovo, which are close to the border with Ukraine, are affected. Starovojt gave no information regarding possible victims.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attacks, but has not done so in past shelling on Russian territory.

Selenskyj thanks soldiers for recapturing places

Over the past few days, Ukraine has repeatedly reported successes in offensive actions once morest Russian forces in the Russian-annexed Donetsk region. So far, seven towns have been liberated and 90 square kilometers are back under Ukrainian control, as Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maljar announced in Kiev.

In his evening video message, Zelenskyy thanked the soldiers for recapturing the areas. “Thanks to our men for every Ukrainian flag that returns to its rightful place in the villages of the newly liberated areas,” Zelenskyy said in his video message. “The fights are tough, but we’re making progress and that’s important.”

“The enemy’s casualties are exactly what we need,” said Zelenskyj following a meeting with generals on the situation in the front area. Ukrainian control is being expanded especially around the city of Bakhmut, which has been declared occupied by Russia. The meeting with the military leadership was regarding the “successes,” but also questions regarding where reinforcements were needed at the front to break through Russian defenses.
