„Welcome to the Hotel California, such a lovely place, such a lovely place …“
Everyone knows the Eagles’ most famous song, even if it wasn’t even born when the long-haired country rockers formed in California (USA) in 1971. But the “Hotel California” is closing! The Eagles have announced their final tour.

On September 7th their tour “The Long Goodbye” begins at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. “Steely Dan” accompany the Eagles on their last tour – and it’s going to be really long. After twelve concerts in the USA, the Eagles want to play until the fans stop buying tickets. The four rockers believe that this will probably last until 2025. After that, the eagles stay in the nest.
“The Eagles have endured a wondrous 52-year odyssey, performing for people around the world,” the band said Thursday night. “Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But everything has its time and it is time for us to come full circle.”

The Eagles were particularly influential in the 1970s. “Hotel California” is a psychedelic swan song to the American dream – a seemingly luxurious hotel that turns out to be a hellhole. The band created their own genre of West Coast music with songs like “One of These Nights” or “Take It to the Limit”.
The rock veterans are one of the most decorated bands in show business. They have received six Grammys (the music industry’s Oscar) in the past 50 years and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
Of the founding members, only Don Henley (75) is still in the band. Bernie Leadon (75, banjo) left at the end of 1975. Singer and guitarist Glenn Frey (67) died in 2016. The band said at the time “he sadly succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute colitis and pneumonia”.
