President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov informed in the telegram channel that the executive committee of the organization unanimously opposed the signing of any declarations by Russian athletes for admission to international tournaments.
“The meeting participants expressed a unified position on the inadmissibility of Russian athletes signing any declarations or other statements of a political nature that are contrary to Russian legislation. For us, this is absolutely unacceptable,” wrote Pozdnyakov.
Pozdnyakov called the restoration of justice the main task of the ROC, including the return of athletes with the flag, anthem and other attributes of the Russian team to the Olympic Games.
The head of the ROC also said that the organization would conduct individual work with sports federations on the inadmissibility of accepting any proposals from international organizations that contradict the Olympic Charter.
ROC postpones issuance of recommendations for participation in tournaments under the terms of the IOC
At the end of March, the IOC recommended admitting Russian athletes to international tournaments in individual disciplines who did not support the special operation in Ukraine and did not have contracts with the army and national security agencies.
Pozdnyakov said on May 11 that “the Russian Olympic family is having a moment of difficult choice due to the recommendations of the IOC.”
Earlier it was reported that the ROC executive committee would announce recommendations for Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status, but on May 24 their announcement was postponed.
