In 2021, 42% of Americans said they were ready to have a sexual relationship with a robot and 39% were even considering falling in love with one… At least that’s what a small study (1,000 people surveyed) by the company revealed Tidio (specializing in chatbots, i.e. conversational computer programs). In Switzerland, the figures are the same: 40.3% of us might have sex with a robot (according to the sex toy sales platform LoveHoney, end of 2022).
This fantasy has a name: “robotsexuality.” And contrary to what many imagine, this possibility does not belong to the distant future. Already five years ago, Henry was making the buzz: a 1.80 m body-built robot, intended for women, invented by the specialized company RealBotix… whose site seems abandoned since 2019. Here we touch the crux of the problem: the revolution sex has been promised to us for decades, the prototypes exist, the fascination remains intact… But, concretely, nothing happens. While fintech (technology at the service of finance), greentech (to save the world), or even agritech (to grow your carrots) flourishes, sextech is slipping.
